  • I'm so sad that Le Couteau is no more. It is now (as of July 2016) a CafĂ© Myriade, one of 2-3 in this small chain. I confess I loved Le Couteau and while I'm TRYING to keep an open mind about the new ownership, my five stars are a nostalgic shout-out to what was (I'm guessing a new Yelp profile will appear soon for the new business). Clearly Le Couteau was struggling financially for some time - the prices were high even for the neighborhood - but my god those guys loved their coffee, loved their shop and really inhabited their vibe. Coming here was a step into a very curated space. The new ownership is still settling in, for sure, but a few strikes against them already: generic big-band music, coffee not as carefully prepared, generic pastries from a distributor on St Laurent... still local, but not the distinctive and delectable ones that really made Le Couteau special. (I'm a big pastry person!!). On the upside the barista seems super nice. I'll give Myriade another try (and another review) when I get a chance in the next couple months. I'll probably vote with my feet for Flocon around the corner from now on though. It's got more of the indie vibe I love. Adieu, Le Couteau!
