| - In short, Rainforest Cafe is a poor value for the money. The menu pricing is on the high-end of the spectrum (i.e.$10.00 for Kids meal with a juice) and the food is the run of the mill Sysco food service type, nothing special. The ambience is excellent (i.e. Fancy Fish Tank, rain and thunder every 30 mins) and the service is pathetically below average. My pasta was served without a spoon. Why would you serve pasta without a spoon? Would you serve a steake without a steak knife? Back in college,I worked for Darden/General Mills restaurants for 4 years. NEVER EVER serve pasta without a spoon! That was engraved in every staff's brain top to bottom.
So I tried to flagged down a staff. A server, a busboy,a runner, a hostess or ANYONE! For 6 mins, not ONE person looked my way with my 2 arms raised and waving back-and-forth. Until finally one waitress walked by and I had to literally GRAB her as she zips by. Do you think this service is acceptable?
Finally when I grabbed this waitress, I asked for a spoon for my pasta and asked for fresh ground pepper (mill) I was told there isn't one in the whole restaurant (this fact was later confirmed with the manager when I asked forher). The server I grabbed told me that I can use the pepper on my table. OH REALLY!!?? Do you think I am blind that I didn't notice there is a salt and pepper shaker on front of me?
To be clear, our assigned waitress/server was VERY GOOD. We asked her for an extra saltine crackers with the clam chowder but when the runner brought the soup with the standard bag of crackers, she noticed it and asked the runner to bring another one (he had appearently forgotten). We also asked extra plate to share, once again the runner forgotten it.
I think they have some SERIOUS service issue with this reataurant. Particularly, hospitality and service is a TEAM work and not just an individual effort. For $90 bucks on lunch, I think I will stick with Nathan's hotdogs next time when staying at MGM Grand.
Edit:
I received a call 2 days later (after I returned home) from the restaurant manager, stating that they received my comment from the survey I filled-out on my card. He said that they DO have fresh peper mills and was baffled why their staff didn't know about it. Regardless, he thanked me for my comment/complaint and we agreed that there has to be some more staff training.
