  • When I moved the Vegas area, I was, to put it mildly, disappointed in what it had to offer in the way of gyms. Thus, I began to look outside of the city area. What I found were gyms that were too far, too expensive, too contract-reliant, had bad equipment or had too few open hours - every one of them had at least two of these. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across ProtoGym. This place had exactly what I was looking for: - No Contracts - Great Equipment - Amazing Prices - 24/7 Availability ProtoGym seemed too good to be true and with (at the time) only a few reviews to their name, I was a bit suspicious. However, I called the gym and the owner of ProtoGym himself was the one who picked up and we set up an appointment to meet. The owner picking up the phone and setting up a time with me may not seem like a huge deal to many, but when a person has, like me, searched far and wide between many gyms and studios, calling and sending e-mails to see what they had to offer, to ask for pricing, to meet with someone, all with varying degrees of response, this was an amazing thing. When I first walked into ProtoGym, I already knew that I was very likely going to sign up. Let's face it, they were cheaper than any gym nearby (without a contract!) and had at least double the amount of equipment to offer than most of the competition I had seen. After meeting with Mike and seeing the other things they had to offer (touchscreen displays with control of music, access to the ProtoGym exercise programs, etc.) I basically told him to shut up and take my money. Okay, not really, but I did sign up on the spot. --- The Pros --- The positives about this place are: - You can go in 24/7 (my first day in was at midnight, had the entire gym to myself). - There is a great amount to do, tons of free weights, bodyweight stuff (ex: ropes to climb), punching bags, etc. - No contract, no fees, just what it is a month. - Tons of resources, from suppliers of beef to exercise regiments (including pictures and videos of the exercises) available on their site that can also be e-mailed directly to you. - A customized gym experience. Thanks to a pretty fantastic setup, they have touchscreen monitors you can use to view resources, exercises, and even have some limited control over the music that is playing throughout the gym. - Classes and trainers. --- The Cons --- The negatives are: - No showers and their bathrooms are one toilet per gender - The music they have playing is loud, very loud. Usually if I am alone I will just turn it off and listen to my own music. However, if others are there, my own headphones have to be cranked up to rather uncomfortable levels if I want to hear my own stuff over the music that is playing. --- The Verdict --- You cannot nor will not (at least at the time of this writing) find an equal in this gym; nothing around here will match the price, the lack of contract and fees, the services provided, nor the equipment inside of it. I am very impressed with this gym and have been telling anybody who will listen (and some who won't) about it.
