| - Generally my favorite stop after brunch or lunch in Little Italy, Dolce Gelato offers everything you could want in a gelato place.
I usually order a medium cup which comes with two flavors. The past few visits I usually get something citrus and something nutty. So it might be pink grapefruit, a lovely pale pink sorbetto which perfectly treads the line between sweet and tangy, or the more standard lemon. For my second flavor, I tend to choose between the classic pick, pistachio (of which they have more than one variety!), hazelnut or cocunut. The handmade gelato is served at the perfect temperature so that it's soft and malleable.
The store itself is very cutely designed, with lots of glass and shiny clean surfaces. The patio furniture is modern aluminum and I understand that they have decent free wireless as well, although I'm not about to lug my laptop out to eat gelato, which is generally a short visit. They also serve a variety of other fancy Italian desserts like tiramisu, but I have yet to make a visit where I didn't insist on gelato.
On a nice night, the Little Italy foot traffic can mean lines out the door and snaking down the sidewalk, so try to go in at an off-peak time instead of during the rush. When it's nice and quiet, the servers will let you sample flavors or will give their recommendations, and let you know if there's anything new to try. The price isn't free, but it's going to cost you about the same as any quality ice cream shop would, and gelato is wayyy better!
