Thank the stars for Galaxie! I can't believe this place!! The most organized store - They sell newer pieces along with every sort of vintage stereo equipment - with beautiful wooden bases - all restored and brought back to life by Vince. What good luck to stumble upon this fantastic store. I am about to go back to buy the beautiful "GALAXIE" Speakers - hand made - super sonic speakers. The story of the local craftsman who makes them - it's just too much - they sound ten times better than my fancy Rosewood QUAD speakers.
I am not an experienced audiophile - and the equipment can be intimidating - Vince made everything easy and was patient enough (and kind enough not to laugh at me) when I came in with my novice turntable problem.
I brought in a used AT PL 120 turntable - with an upgraded cartridge - as a Christmas present for my parents - but when I connected it to the phono input on the receiver - it was cacophony - I took it to Galaxie - prepared for the worst - and within five minutes Vince sorted the whole problem out. Simple - newer turntables have preamps which will interfere with the receiver's preamp - and you have to flip a switch to turn off the TT preamp (hidden under the platter). Disaster averted and everything working perfectly now. We listened to records for hours yesterday!!
I'm so excited to pick up the speakers today and get the home stereo all set up.
Thanks VINCE!!
