| - This review is LONG overdue. I've been going to Emily Claire for probably close to 4 years now - I found her through a friend's recommendation. I've followed her from the Root to Kami Sori and now to the Boss.
More significantly - and this should tell you everything you need to know about how great Emily is - I've continued to see her for my hair even AFTER moving to San Francisco 2+ years ago.
Yes, I literally fly from SF to Phoenix every few months to get my hair done by Emily (in my defense, given Emily's reasonable prices and the totally outrageous prices in SF, it's often about the same cost even after the flight). There was one time a few years ago that I simply couldn't make it out to Phoenix and tried a highly-regarded place in SF, and it paled in comparison to Emily (in fact, she had to fix their work a bit the next time I saw her). After that experience, I decided that I was better off just continuing to see Emily.
My natural hair is quite light blonde (maybe a level 8-9), but I bleach it to a cool platinum blonde. Bleaching hair to platinum - no matter how light your natural color may be - is no minor thing. It's really easy to screw up (we've all seen people with that gross orangey blonde color), and it's really easy to destroy your hair if done wrong. In fact, around 7 years ago, I had a disastrous experience that ended in my hair being chemically burnt off to above my ears. Since then, I've been working on rebuilding and regrowing my hair (and have also been extremely particular about who I trust to do my hair). Under Emily's care, it's grown long and remained remarkably healthy, given that I heat-style it almost daily and bleach it every 2 months.
I constantly get compliments on my hair color, and despite how light it is, many people ask if it's natural (or even just assume that it is). Emily bleaches and tones it to perfection every time I see her. She also does a fantastic job with cutting and styling hair.
On top of her incredible hair skills, Emily is just a genuinely wonderful person to be around - she's kind, funny, understanding, and basically everything you'd ever want in a stylist. She does book out fairly far in advance (especially for popular times like weekends/evenings - so book in advance if you need to come then!), but she always does her absolute best to accommodate my schedule when I come into town, which I really appreciate.
To sum it up: Emily Claire is a hair wizard, and a fantastic human being. I can't recommend her highly enough (particularly if you live in Phoenix and don't, like me, have to cross state lines to see her).
