| - TERRIBLE, DON'T USE: I called in a claim under my First American Home Buyers Protection. I received a call from "Rite-Away Services Pluming" 1-800-974-7379. They dispatched a plumber right away (great!). The plumber was lazy and afraid, here's why: First, he said he put some putty around the drain and that stopped the leak. Then, he said the leak wasn't fixed and he's afraid there might be mold (not any particular evidence). He told me I had a half bucket of water coming through the ceiling downstairs. He told me I had to deal with another company PCR, to dry out this small 2 by 2 newly dampened drywall, test for mold, test for asbestos (which I told him was not an issue, i have HOA disclosers that state no asbestos was use to build the home, built in 1980, after asbestos was banned in residential homes). They showed up and quoted me $1500 + to do all this unnecessary work over two weeks and told me I should open a claim with my home owners insurance because they were going to charge well over $1000.
When I arrived home, I found:
o 1/2 cup of water... not a 1/2 bucket full. Plumber exaggerated!
o The ceiling had not changed, it was still maybe 2x2 square of damp drywall.
o PCRs De-humidifier in my living room, running since 3pm (which is bad because I'm charged for high energy cost 3pm-6pm).
I never signed anything authorizing PCR to start work or leave equipment running in my house.!!!
The more I evaluated the situation, the more I felt like the Plumber was subcontracting this out to his friends (probably for a referral bonus) and I was being scammed into an huge insurance expenditure!!!
I called my own plumber and paid out of pocket $250 to have it fixed in under 2 hours the next day. He cut open the 2 x 2 dry wall. There is NO asbestos (we already knew this) and there's NO MOLD. I tried to tell PCR and the plumber that, but they wouldn't listen. He said this leak hadn't been happening long it was just the shower valve. Which he's bought and fixed already.
I feel very taken advantage of in this situation. If I needed a drywall restoration company, I would have worked through my home owners insurance to find a trusted company they work with. I personally believe the Plumber from "Rite-Away Services Pluming" was shaking hands with PRC. He didn't do me any service, nor solve my problem. He just escalated matters by using scary words like "a half bucket of water" and "mold/asbestos" etc. And then he called another company and disappeared.
