| - So I do not do bad reviews very much, so please know I am not an anal, picky person who gives a poor rating for a dumb reason. I am a realist and worked in the service industry for over 10 years, so I keep that in mind. With that said, there are a few key reasons why I am reviewing Kennywood and giving them the poor score.
Pricing- Adult rider is anyone over 46 inches at $41.99 per person. Junior rider is anyone under 46 inches at $28.99 per person. Kids 2 years and under are free...how you prove their age, I don't know. Doesn't sound bad but unfortunately, my husband and I both agree when we say about 85% of the regular rides require a rider to be above 46 inches. So Junior riders have to stick with KiddieLand and a handful of rides... Is it just me or is it extremely expensive for a little kid to go to KiddieLand? Or go on The Whip? No roller coaster, no Black Widow...no Racers.
Repairs and upkeep-The past 3 times we have been to Kennywood many rides have been closed or a portion of them are broken...but the ride is still open! This equals long lines and long periods of staring and dwelling in the local "aromas". Granted it does get hot and there are tons of people there but through long waits we have noticed that everything is dirty and smells like an un-flushed toilet. The water there is pungent and many of the roller-coasters reeked of mildew. Many buildings, rails, posts, columns etc need repainted terribly and the landscape is incredibly boring. Sorry if my expectations are too uptight but if you are charging an arm and a leg just for admission, maybe you should make sure the experience parallels the cost or lower your pricing.
So if you want to go to a anti-family amusement park that does not cater to kids, budgets or cares about customers experience...then by all means go to Kennywood. If you do want something better, check out my favorite park so far, Waldameer and Waterworld at waldameer.com or my next favorite Idlewild and Soak Zone at www.idlewild.com. They at least keep families in mind and both have a water park that you can include in admission. FYI, Kennywood has only 3 water rides...
Good luck!
