  • The hardest part of moving to a new place is finding new service providers--doctors, dentists, and yes, stylists. I went to a salon in October and wasn't at all happy with either the atmosphere or the hair cut. So I put off on getting my hair cut again until now-May. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore, so I asked for recommendations and discovered that just about everyone I work with went to the place I didn't like. I turned to Yelp. I picked Snip Snip for three reasons, first, I liked the name. Second, they seemed to have a really eclectic clientele--they didn't just cater to old ladies or hipsters or whatever. Finally, their reviews were universally good and seemed actually genuine. I made an appointment with Jessica. Now, I kind of hate my hair. It is thin, due to a medical condition and fine and for some reason, stylists keep wanting to straighten out the natural wave, even when I tell them I look awful with straight hair. Not so with Jessica. She listened to my issues, she gave me a fantastic cut, and she styled it exactly how I wanted it--the first time. This is seriously the best hair cut I've had in years. Add to that the fact that the salon doesn't have a frou-frou, girly, faux classy appearance. Instead it is clean and modern but still kind of funky without descending into kitsch. They were a little pricier than I'd like, but the older I get, the more I learn that you really do get what you pay for, and sometimes it is worth it to splurge for quality. This is one of those times. I will be back.
