| - Friend of mine wanted to take me out for AYCE and after looking through Yelp, I chose this place. The reviews seemed decent and the price was okay, so we went here.
Walking in, it seemed like an okay place. A little small, but my favorite sushi place is literally a hole in the wall, so you can't judge by the cover. We sat at the bar and the waitress (I think. Three different people served us sides and sodas, so I don't know) reminded us of the left-over policy and took our drink order.
There was a TON of chefs behind the bar. The amount of chefs should have meant the food came quickly and you didn't have to wait a while to order, but it was took an average amount of time. Which is okay, I mean, but I was struck by just how many chefs they had for a Wednesday night. It was like 8 or something.
We started off with garlic edamame, which I usually love. Here it was like half-cooked with melted garlic butter on top. By the end of it, I felt like I was drinking butter. Not the best start.
My favorite dish is Japanese Lasagna and I was excited that they had it, so that was my first roll. It had some kind of weird scallop sauce or something and was served on foil. I literally had to pry the sushi off of the foil. I next had some kind of fried California roll that was so breaded my friend and I could barely stand to finish it. He had a Red Dragon roll that he said was really good, but his other roll was meh.
We didn't bother to stay for dessert. It took years to get the check. When he gave them his card, a waitress immediately returned saying it didn't work. She seemed kind of offended when we both insisted he had money on it (he had literally just shown me on his bank account app) and came back ten minutes later with the receipts.
Pretty decent pricing, but you can get better sushi someplace else for the same price. We didn't even know who our sever WAS. Not the worst sushi experience I've ever had, but I'll stick to Naked Fish's up on Durango when I'm craving sushi.
