| - Terrible experience from beginning to end. Though I was assured that a late evening check in would be no problem over the phone, I could not get into the hotel without a room key (how could anyone have a room key without having checked in?!). I waited 15 minutes outside the front doors before a hotel guest let me in; if anyone had been at the front desk they would have seen me. I stood at the front desk an additional 10 minutes before I saw a single employee. When I was finally able to speak with someone from the front desk, I was NOT given a very important note left for me regarding my father in ICU at Cleveland Clinic. Now having waited nearly a half hour, I was informed that The Guest House was overbooked and was sent to a different (far superior) hotel. Pray for overbooking, you'll be at the Intercontintal.
My second night in town I stayed at the Guest House to be near my mother, as originally planned. Simply stated, the hotel is old, dark, and dingy (not even Motel6 standards). Their enormous, rotten, stinky trash collection site is located immediately to the right of the only entrance to the hotel, and the funk overwhelms you each time you come or go. Their rooms are third-rate, out-dated, poorly cleaned, and seriously overpriced. There was no soap, shampoo, or water available. My bedding was nasty (where is CSI when you need them?). The air conditioning is dysfunctional; my room averaged about 78 degrees with the a/c on full bore. Each vending machine I attempted to use was broken. So was the ATM. Their wi-fi was also down.
The ONLY thing that keeps this hotel in business is the location (Cleveland Clinic), and the desperation of people like me with family across the street. Do not stay at this hotel if you can avoid it, it will not make your difficult time any easier. Go absolutely anywhere else. Without question my worst hotel experience ever. Shame on you.
