Heard great things from a local about Lola's...and headed there for lunch while I was in town. Had the gumbo appetizer...the roux was just the right consistency, but it was lacking "jump"...the flavors melted together, and there was not a whole lotta spice. There was nothing wrong, just not memorable. I opted for some char grilled oysters...the six were on the smaller side...again, nothing wrong with the dish, just not memorable....I finished with the jambalaya...the sausage, again, didn't bring heat...the flavor was more tomato than spice...I knew it was fresh as the onions were still crunchy in it...maybe if it sat a bit more it would absorb more spice...I don't know. Service at the bar was friendly and on point...overall it was good, not great, and wouldn't cut it in the French Quarter.
