  • Not happy with this Doctor at all. I took my daughter in for an appointment with him for the first time on Thursday for a bump on her head that wasn't going away very well on its own. She is 10 years old. I just wanted to make sure that that bump wasn't infected or anything. So anyways, the Doctor out of nowhere, and without warning, decides to lay into my daughter about her weight. My 10 year old daughter, he decides it's appropriate to tell her that she is a little overweight for her height, and that she doesn't need to lose any weight but that she needs to make sure that she doesn't gain anymore weight. I was in shock that he started talking to my child about that out of nowhere. I understand trying to help people not be obese. But this is a 10 year old little girl that he knows nothing about. He knows nothing about the fact that she's been insecure about her weight every day for the last year and that I'm the one that sits there and tries to reassure her daily that she will stretch out and that she just has to eat healthy and exercise. If this doctor was really concerned about her weight then he should have pulled me aside and talked to me first and got the background info. But instead he decided to lay into a 10 year old little girl who has already been struggling with insecurity issues regarding her weight. He went in on her about her weight for about 10 minutes, and I could see on her face the tears welling up in her eyes. And if I wasn't in such shock at the time that this doctor was even doing this, I wouldn't have allowed him to even go on for 10 minutes like I did. So finally I cut him off and told him that was enough. To just stop talking about this with her, that she's visibly upset and he needs to drop the subject at this point. So does he stop talking about it at that point? No, he starts making excuses to me for why he's talking about it. So my daughter literally had to listen to him tell her how overweight she was for 20 minutes. She's only 10 years old. And probably one of the sweetest most kindest little girls ever. She didn't deserve that at all. And so we left this Doctor's office, and my daughter broke into tears as soon as we got in the car. Mind you my daughter's actual pediatrician that has seen her since she was a baby and has been a doctor for like 40 years, says she's just fine weight-wise. In fact her pediatrician called us that night to tell her that she was just perfect the way that she was. This Doctor at Trident Health Center needs to be a lot more responsible about how he goes about talking to people about weight issues. Especially young girls.
