| - Let me start by saying I really wanted to love this place and rave that 5 stars isn't enough. But this place isnt there yet and the main thing that has to change is cats/humans contact.
Door to door review: snags start with the waiver system. You sign a waiver you haven't read because you haven't been offered it. There is a line to wait to sign so waivers in a sheet protector for perusing would be good.
Cat Cafe Mad dealt with health department rules by installing a cat-free chain link cage in the middle of the place, where you can collect your k-cup coffee, can soda, bottled water, etc . It looks terrible. Like, not even "oooo industrial.." Just. Terrible. And unwelcoming. Cat bio posters here would temper the imposing look!
There were probably 20 humans in there when we arrived to the back, which was a few minutes after the cafe opened. Zero active cats. A couple sleeping. Sign posted not to touch sleeping cats so...off to the drink clink we go.
You're paying for cat access people. The cafe portion isn't better than what's at your home so keep expectations low.
The cats per human ratio was bad. Close to an hour in a couple cats were walking around. People have different opinions of what this cafe is for but when it advertises the positive aspects of being able to pet cats, there needs to be more cats and they need to be the most social ones they can find.
There was a lot of people looking at people and little cat contact. I mean, if you aren't trying to get an awake cat you're going to have zero cat time. If being in the same room where cats exist works for you, this may be alright for you.
My main suggestion would be to divide the space and make it more enclosed or cozy for the cats sake. People can choose a room, go between. I'm sure limiting guests won't be a thing so more cats, taking reservations are my other two ideas to improve time with cats.
Even at the soft opening price of $5 I don't know if I'd be a regular. For $10 regular price beginning in a few days, I would return only if the cat to person ratio improves.
-Fluffy is on the website but apparently is "at a new home" according to my daughter when she inquired as to his whereabouts. Again, hyping one thing but reality another. I'm monitoring Facebook and think some cats can be adopted? But not all. Who can and who can't is unclear.
-No clear signage from the street as to whether the place was open.
-Tight space and wouldn't be accessible to wheelchairs.
-Seating is uncomfortable.
+Kitties are adopted including one with some physical issues! Yay diversity and inclusion!
+No pesky odors but I hope every couple hours cleanup by staff becomes a thing because the hair and spread cat food (not to mention whatever is on people's shoes) is not a good mix. We are sitting in the floor lots right? Waiting for kitties to come...
+You can return later the same business day under the same cover fee. How that occurs they don't know yet.
