| - If I had rated Muddy Waters the first or second time I visited I would have given it 4 or 5 stars. After the 5th or 6th visit, this place feels a little "meh" to me.
My most disappointing food item has been the catfish. I normally LOVE catfish and couldn't even eat more than one small piece. It was dry, chewy, and smelled a little too fishy for my taste. I know I was *literally* eating fish, but the smell was a tad too pungent for me to be comfortable. Even the sauce that came with the catfish didn't make it better for me.
My favorite food item from Muddy Waters doesn't even come from the sea. Their corn bread is the best corn bread I've ever had and it comes with equally wonderful apple butter. The corn bread is made with sweet potato and is perfectly moist and flavorful. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I wish everything at Muddy Waters was as good as the cornbread, but it isn't. I guess the pimento cheese is also good, but pretty basic pimento cheese dip.
Happy hour is also pretty limited. If you like oysters they are always discounted and have been good during happy hour. The drink specials are not very *special*, but they do have $10 off bubbly deals that make it possible to purchase a decent bottle of sparkling rose for $26.
Overall, you could probably have a good dinner or brunch at Muddy Waters, but it's nothing special. Service is generally good, food has been hit or miss, and I've usually spent more than I've expected- even during their happy hour.
