  • I think it goes without saying that Community Colleges will not provide the most rigorous academic environment. That is not their aim. They are trying to provide a flexible and inexpensive way for people to ease into higher education without taking the plunge as a full-time student at a 4-year college. But that doesn't mean they are complete crap. A couple of my very intelligent friends came through here and are now bound for pharmacy school and PhD programs. I'm sure that many of their classmates are not faring so well, but the opportunity is there. Myself, I almost had to take a class here. I signed up, dealt with the admissions people, even spoke to a few professors. They were all very friendly, helpful, et cetera. They didn't strike me as heavy academics but, like I said, that's not what they are shooting for. In the end I was able to escape the obligation (with moderate shenaniganry) and didn't have to take the class. But I got the feeling that it wouldn't have been the end of the world if I had taken it.
