  • The battery on my car had died. It was terrible, and I was already planning funeral arrangements. AAA came and jumped my vehicle with their wondrous magic jumpy box. I drove up to the Advance Auto parts, eager with anticipation to get my new battery and have them install it. I entered the store, heart beating quickly, anxious to get the new battery for my car so that it would run and I would be free once again to traverse the open road. Now, as a side note - I know nothing about cars or batteries. I walked in and made my way to the battery aisle. And I stared. I stared at all the batteries, wondering how I had so royally screwed up in a previous life to be stuck in this predicament - a seemingly infinite number of batteries, and no idea as to which would go in my car. Thankfully, I was at a place that SURELY would be able to help me. Any moment now, one of the people who works there will come and greet me, offering me assistance. Alas, I was naive. No one came. They stood up at the counter, and stared off in the distance, or chatted with each other. No one helped me. Finally, I went up to the counter and talked to an associate. He looked up my car, and told me they had the proper battery. Success! Finally we were getting somewhere! He looked up my car and told me what batteries would work for me. I picked one and decided to buy it, he agreed that they could install it. It all went through and I was ready. I waited by my car like a boy waiting at the door of his first date. Anxious. Nervous. Sweating at the palms. Finally, the man who sold me the battery came out to my car, which I had already popped the hood. He hooked something up underneath my steering wheel, and then mumbled to himself. Walking back inside, he asked me to wait a moment. Having no where to go because my car doesn't work, I waited. The man who was to fix my car, my savior, came back out with someone else. His coworker, his assistant. This new player also looked at the device hooked up under my steering wheel. At this time, I was told by these fine young gentleman that they could not change my battery. There was an issue with "the memory" of the CPU of my car. They didn't have the capability to store it, and therefore they couldn't change my battery. Luckily, they suggested some shops and were happy to jump me to get me moving again. They brought out their own magic box to jump me...and it didn't work. I couldn't get moving. They refunded the cost of the battery, but I was still stuck. I had to call AAA again. The same guy showed up and sold me a battery and installed it. He had no need to store any memory. The only thing I lost was the presets on my radio. Big. Freaking. Deal. This Advance Auto Parts has NOT made a customer for life at all. I will not be returning.
