  • This review is a pain to write, just because the ladies at the salon were very sweet (I think?). The first time I stepped into the salon, I was given a very warm welcome. The ladies were complimenting the way I looked, making me feel all nice about myself. I wasn't sure if that was just a way to pull me into their service... but anyway, I thought they were sweet & the salon was decent so I decided to give it a try. I am a very prepared person, so I brought along SEVERAL photos of the hair colour I wanted to achieve. This was the first time I ever dyed my hair professionally (second time I dyed it at all). I am Asian, so my hair is naturally very dark. I went into the salon with pre-dyed hair. My hair was medium bronze/brown at this point, and what I wanted was essentially a light ash brown base with strawberry blond highlights. When I show her a photo of the desired colour, she instantly goes "yes I can do that for you!" I also mentioned that my hair was pre-dyed from the previous week and she said that was fine. I was told the colouring would be $60, which is a fair price so I came in another day. The result? NOT SATISFACTORY. My hair literally looked DARKER than it was before. I ended up telling her 3 simple things I wanted - Light brown base colour - Blond highlights - Keep some inner parts of my hair natural (dark) It's not that much of a request... Especially because I showed her pictures, and even insisted on showing her more pictures so she will get a better understanding! But nope, silly me believed that the hairdresser actually knew what she was doing. She kept trying to convince me that my hair is ASIAN so it won't be the same as "those white girls" (yes she actually said that). I was thrown off by this, because she had originally said my desired colour wasn't a problem. So now that the colour DID NOT SHOW UP and in fact made the overall look of my hair darker.... She now wants to say that going light will damage my hair? Wtf. I wasn't happy with what she said, but I still paid, tipped and went home. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to get it fixed. So I called in and she said she would try to accommodate me and fix my hair. It was implied it'd be free, but she ended up making me pay another $10. And guess what? IT STILL DID NOT CHANGE. It was pretty much the same lightness that it was when I originally walked into the salon. Yes it was lighter than the previous colouring session, but it's the fact I end up paying $80 to get the same hair colour I had before. Unbelievable. I pretended I was okay with it because I didn't want to cause a scene. I ended up getting another box of hair dye from the grocery store, and re-dying my hair lighter myself. The box dye did a better job lightening my hair than that salon. Lightening hair isn't that difficult of a request, and I'm the customer. It's MY hair. If they couldn't do it, they should've told me instead of giving me false hope. Another complaint is the gossiping. i understand hairdressers do this all the time, and they talk to each other while cutting people's hair. I don't have a problem with that... if they aren't talking about me. I speak Cantonese, and they were speaking Canto + English too. They were aware that I spoke minimal Chinese, so I'm not quite sure if they realized I knew they were speaking about me. I honestly feel bad writing this, because the women tried to be nice to me... I was just not happy with my hair, and felt very uncomfortable throughout the experience. I would not go back again.
