Every one in a while, I forget how awful Fry's is and drive over there to buy a part. This time it was for a Samsung SSD SATA 500GB. It showed "in stock" at this store. Foolishly, instead of ordering it for pickup (didn't want to wait forever for the confirmation), I drove the 30 miles to buy it from the store. Not only was there no stock, there wasn't even a spot for the 500GB on the shelf. I asked for help. The help-person looked in all the places I had looked, then handed me a Samsung M2 drive. Nope. I asked him if they had any 500GB SATA SSDs in any brand as the shelves were filled only with the smaller SSDs. He looked at me as if I was speaking gorgon.
I drove two doors down to BestBuy. They only had 3 SSDs on display total. I asked the salesman if they had any more. He got out a ladder and combed through the products up in a locked cage. Bingo! PNY 480GB, on sale. Happy MacBook!
I can't think of a single positive experience I've had over many years of trying to buy products at Fry's. My observation is that Fry's uses completely untrained sales help to sell last year's models.
Next time, I'll remember not to bother to go to Fry's.
