| - The first time I went to House of Brews, I would have given it 4 stars...and it was easily on it's way to 5 stars too. However, I went back a few more times, and my opinion actually changed for the worse.
On our first visit, the server/bartender informed us that about 95% of the food House of Brews served was made in-house. And, when our order was brought out, we could easily taste the evidence of what she claimed: delicious, quality food! The best example of this (and my biggest point of contention) is the french fries. On our first visit, the fries were cut fresh in house. They were quality and delicious. You could see the skins on them, and they had a homemade taste that was unbeatable.
However, on subsequent visits we noticed that House of Brews switched to "beer-battered fries." These were obviously no longer fresh, and far less delicious than the original homemade fries. They had the taste of frozen, lifeless, run-of-the-mill fries you can get at any hotel convention buffet. Blah. What's the point.
The fries are just one example. But, the fresh, homemade quality of the food that originally endeared me to the place is disappearing. And, thus, so am I.
I don't live close to House of Brews. Originally, it was well worth the trip to eat at a place that focused on the quality of their food -- in addition to their amazing beer selection. But no longer. House of Brews is still "A-OK" decent, but it's no longer "Woohoo, as good as it gets" good.
