| - I've been pondering my visit to Dr Wright's office a month ago office and generally I tend to believe the best in everyone and if I'm confused or puzzled usually think it's something about me - that I didn't get it. But after reading some reviews, I knew I needed to add my voice. Not to diminish the positive reviews but honestly, I feel like I was living in the 19th century and the miracle man and his wagon pulled up into town and there I was with "sucker" written all over my forehead. I just moved to Las Vegas and due to several moves and new jobs had not had an exam or cleaning in over 2 years. I'm usually like clockwork - every six months. I was concerned because I had chipped a molar due to clenching during a stressful period and I am also a sleeping clencher, so I worry about my teeth a lot and knew I needed a night guard, to have the chipped tooth fixed and a good cleaning. I floss 2-3x/day and brush at least 3x/day so I think I take pretty good care of my teeth and have good oral hygiene. I never wore braces or needed to, never had oral surgery and have had 2 partial crowns and some fillings. They wowed me with the fancy equipment - the Doppler radar cavity finder for one, along with others technologies and then Dr Wright and his wife came in and he began his exam. They seemed very nice although his wife was sure to tell me about their chiropractor, facialist and injector for filler and Botox. That was a bit weird. After 3 hours, they were going to put together my treatment plan and tried to talk me into coming back for the cleaning - that was the second odd thing - but I was like wth? and made them do it. I have had 50 years of cleaning and that cleaning was a lick and a promise if I ever had one. The free tooth whitening would have to wait for another day, I supposed at 5 pm. After that, I had to wait while their (office manager?) put together my treatment plan and numbers. When we finally sat down, she began to explain what I needed. Before I could even be fitted for the $1000 (!!!) night guard, I would have to have some work done first on the bottom 2 quadrants (just the tops, not anything on the sides) or it wouldn't fit - which on its face makes sense, right? She starts running numbers and when $4000+ came out of her mouth, I was shocked but assumed it was for EVERYTHING. The whole mouth. No no no. It was about $3000-4000 per quadrant yes, close to $12000-16000 for the work they said I HAD to have - the $4000 was only for the work needed so I could be fitted with the $1000 night guard. That poor woman - I wonder how many patients mouths drop open in total shock and horror when she runs that breakdown?! I couldn't believe it. I was totally stunned and I told her that I was looking at 6 months for the $$$ for first quadrant which meant a year for the entire bottom half. Fyi, have fantastic insurance and had a Groupon too. (I figured the Groupon would cover what insurance didn't - it was for a full exam, X-rays, and a tooth whitening.) Back to story - during the $breakdown, Mrs Wright is lurking in office area under the guise of doing something else but very obviously listening to the discussion. So of course, the ofc mgr noticed my agitation and probably the way my blood drained from my face when I figured out I was look at about $4k per quadrant. When she saw she might be losing me she said I could have Dr Miller do the work but that it wouldn't be "holistic" but would be much more in line with regular dental charges. Right then, Mrs Wright angrily chimed in without making eye contact that if I was going to go with Dr Miller, she hoped I would at least use the upgraded materials! She made me feel like I was an ignoramus & oh so plebeian. While she was saying this, the office manager was looking at me with sympathy, slightly shaking her head like she was sorry & not to pay attention to Mrs Wright's words. (Side: why would a holistic dentist offer sub-par materials at all??) Finally, the office manager said she would email me the quote using rates for both dentists - and I left very upset and freaked out. Long story short, quotes never sent; I called the next week to make sure they had my email address correctly which they did and said they'd get my quote(s) right out. All I got was a call telling me I owed $290 w/some story about the Groupon & a promise that the quotes would be emailed immediately. You know how this ends... no email. At this point, they can try to bill my insurance and I'm done. Now I hope that I can use my benefits and start over w/new dentist. I may call ins co to try to fight the claim and am considering filing a complaint with state board. It feels like bait and switch. They obviously avoid the cleaning so if you have sticker shock, they never have to do it bec you're long gone. The thing that is most upsetting, is that most people want to keep their smile and their teeth and have to rely on the integrity of the dentist and his office staff and this was really awful
