Built for the Olympics, and thus sporting an odd structure that sees several restricted-view seating areas in the upper bowl originally designed for media seating, Calgary's Saddledome was #26 on my tour of NHL Arena cities and aside from, perhaps, the now-defunct Igloo in Pittsburgh also the most unappealing.
Accessed via tunnels from the Stampede Fairgrounds, thus eliminating the awe of approaching a big building from the street, everything about this place feels old and shopworn, the upstairs access routes cutting through the lower bowl, the floors dingy and the giftshops uncomfortably tight.
