| - I love The Ship: It's probably one of my favourite bars in Calgary. To be sure, on weekends its extremely crowded, loud and hard to find a spot to rest your beer but I love coming by on a semi-busy weeknight for a drink with a couple of friends.
I disagree that the Ship is full of hipsters - there are plenty to be sure, but I actually find the crowd to be pretty diverse. On more than one occasion I've been surrounded by metal heads, college kids and dapperly dressed 70+ year old men. If you want to see a really hip bar you'd better go to Local 510.
Food wise, its nothing to rave about, but I rarely expect pub fare to satisfy foodies. On very busy afternoons/early evenings service can be VERY slow and inconsistent.. but I'm so fond of this place that I can forgive those faults.
Ultimately, I come here for the great selection of beer, chill atmosphere, collection of fun, boisterous strangers, and generally very friendly staff. The Ship is a Calgary institution and will always be a special place for me.
