| - Wow. Should have read the only other Yelp review first.
I've encountered a lot of sub-par customer service situations, but this one takes the cake.
Imagine a 72 year old man, accosting you, verbally on the phone for more than 10 minutes, before you even get half a sentence out of your mouth? It's not a pleasant experience.
Let me explain.
I'm in the process of planting trees and bushes in my front yard. My landscaping guy who cuts our lawn offered to draw up an estimate for us, but, on a recommendation from a co-worker, chose Grower's Outlet. The prices for their plants was pretty reasonable, and they could install everything at a price.
The installation went okay, the workers were really nice. However. Two days later, when my regular landscaper came to give us an estimate for the backyard...he noticed some oddities in the planting.
There were ropes still tied around the tree trunks. (This, apparently can kill a growing tree.) There were plastic sheets still wrapped around the bark. The trees were planted with the burlap in-tact. There were root debris, scattered about, and one bush just plopped on the grass. There was also no promised mulch.
I called Grower's Outlet and calmly asked if there was something that could be done, or if I could have a refund for the sub-par service. The first woman I spoke with seemed fine. She said she couldn't help me and that I'd have to talk with the owner and should call back.
When I called back, I didn't even get half a sentence out of my mouth, when I was verbally accosted. The man on the other line spewed insults, and said my landscaper didn't know what he was talking about. He told me I had yelled and insulted his daughter (the original woman I spoke with on the phone) and he was offended.
He proceeded to verbally abuse me, using the words "hell" multiple times, and letting me know he is 72 years old, and has been doing this job since he was 14, so he should know what he's talking about. He "...made 2 million dollars last year...we do a lot of big jobs, we know what we're doing."
Mind you, I still hadn't finished my sentence.
He then proceeded to say everything was done correctly, but if he wanted, he could have his installer clean up the mess they left in the yard. No refunds.
Click.
Wow. I was in tears at this point.
When I got to work, some other co-workers told me they had similar, aggressive, scary confrontations with the same man, Bill Staney. My landscaper was appalled but wasn't surprised, since he had another client who had been accosted by Bill before too.
Bottom line. I never got the receipt, or a contract. I was told the work would be guaranteed, but apparently it's not. The plants are so close together, they'll grow on TOP of each other soon.
I feel assaulted every time I see my front yard now. I'm out about 600-bucks...and have filed a complaint with the BBB. I urge anyone else who has had a bad experience to do the same, so this treatment can stop.
