  • The Coliseum is showing its age, and has been for a long time, but at the end of the day I've enjoyed the events I've attended here and can look past the lack of amenities and appreciate the opportunity to experience bigger events in a more intimate setting. Most recently I've been attending hockey games for the Madison Capitols, and also saw Mumford & Sons earlier this year. In the past I've seen everything from Boyz II Men to John Mayer to Cinderella on Ice. Concessions are not cheap, which is no surprise (though some things like a $4 pretzel are pretty reasonable), and everything looks a little cobbled together, but when it comes down to it I'm not going to the Coliseum for a Budweiser or for how the hallways look. The seats are comfortable enough, it's easy to navigate, and with a 10,000-person capacity it's never going to get too crazy. Would I change some things? Yes. Parking is a little nuts at $7 for most things, and the ticket windows could use some cross training; on a recent visit I stood in a line for will call while two additional agents just stood there chatting because there were no walk-up sales. There was only one box of tickets for group sales, but even just halving the box on the fly and putting up a A-M/N-Z sign would have moved things along much more quickly. In the end, though, I'm just glad it exists so that we can get some bigger events through town.
