  • STAY AWAY!! I looked past the horribly outdated office and the less than desirable area of town to re-visit Gem Optical and Dr. Pamela Moore for my children's annual eye exam. This was our second time seeing her and the exams went well. Dr. Pam was both nice and polite to my three children, as well as my husband and I. After learning my 7yr old son would need glasses, we began to try on some frames while both of my daughters took turns getting their exams. When we found a pair that looked nice and fit well, I approached the front desk to take care of the co-pay and proceed with the ordering process. I was rudely told the frame selections on display are the same ones customers receive when they order (gross!) and that the option we chose for our son could not be re-ordered for us despite being damaged. I was not offered any further assistance or solution so I walked out of Gem Optical? with his prescription and a sour taste in my mouth from the middle aged brunette with a PMS-like attitude. Later that day I chose another place to purchase glasses for my son, I was told as well as shown on their computer that Gem Optical had taken it upon themselves to authorize my three children for glasses prior to their exams and without my permission. Why would anyone ever assume that children that have never had glasses before will need glasses this time AND why would they assume I would choose to purchase anything through them? According to an employee I spoke with while attempting to have this authorization voided, this is standard procedure for owner Sharon Terrell (who of course neglected to return my phone call) and after contacting our insurance company to discuss this practice, I was told it is absolutely illegal. An investigation is currently underway. Due to these shady practices, I now have a hard time trusting the entire Gem Optical experience and exam results. Does my son even need glasses or is this their way of attempting to make a quick buck?! We are taking our son to another optometrist for a second opinion and if the results differ, we will absolutely be taking this further with an attorney.
