  • If you need routine blood work done in the East Valley, chances are you will probably go to a Sonora Quest lab to get it done. It seems like they're the big dog in the lab test market in AZ. They have multiple locations throughout the Phoenix area and making appointments is easy online. This particular location is really easy to get to and is right on the corner of Country Club Way (Not Country Club Drive) and Southern. In the past I actually only used Theranos whose claim to fame was the finger stick blood test (I.e. minimally invasive blood test) but as with many things in life, if something sounds too good to be true it typically is (Theranos currently is banned from operating any blood testing services in AZ due to improper testing methods and is under criminal investigation for misleading investors- Whoopsie daisies!). So, this was my first time having blood drawn at a Sonora Quest. I had tried to go the week before as a drop in appointment mid-week in the afternoon but when I called there was a one hour wait to be seen. Ehhh I have better things to do than wait one hour for someone to siphon away my blood on my day off. So, I made an appointment online for about a week out. When you get here there are self serve kiosks you use to check in. I checked in and after a minute the front desk person took my lab order and insurance card. It took maybe 10 minutes of waiting after that before I was called back. The waiting room has plenty of seats and it was moderately busy on a weekday mid morning. There are various magazines to look through and a TV showing Sonora Quest produced health information. As a helpful hint to anyone in charge here who might be reading this, please don't torture your clients with food information in the waiting area if there are people that have been fasting! My stomach was grumbling hearing about anything food related even though it was only about the health benefits of granola. My phlebotomist was very sweet and personable but she wasn't able to find a vein in my right arm and did a lot of painful "exploration" before switching over to the left arm. Thankfully she was able to get a good blood draw with the left arm. My right arm was really sore with a mild throbbing pain for about an hour afterwards and it was hard to drive back using just one arm. I was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. Would I use them again? Well I probably don't really have too much of a choice so yes!
