| - In my years of rentals from companies on both West and East coast, this is and always will be my worst experience. So why two stars, I guess I have to give them something for picking up the phone and putting forth the minimal effort to work with the home owner to solve our problems.
Renters: At the end of the day, the renter is LAST in this pecking order. If the home owner wants something, they will get it their way. Illegal practice or otherwise. Expect to shell out a lot of money for items that are the home owner's responsibilities such as plumbing, landscaping, water overages, poor roofing, or your standard dents and dings. Keep excellent documentation as you will need it for when you take the company and homeowner to court to try and comp your expenses. State you plan to not pay a portion of your rent or take them to court; expect a call regarding you will be evicted. Expect to play the phone game day after day after day. Oh yes yes yes, we'd be happy to speak to the homeowner about that issue. Never a call back. Hey, remember that issues I called about yesterday. Let me follow up again with the homeowner. Silence, days go by, it's like the anxiety after breaking up with that high school boyfriend/girlfriend, week after week after miserable week.
Homeowners: This sounds great right? A company that will go to bat for you against those annoying renters. But just you wait, this company is so inept THEY GAVE OUT THE HOMEOWNER'S CONTACT INFORMATION. His personal cell phone number, oh yes I have it. So when I called him and he accused me of finding his number, I simply said for him to call Desert Realty and have them explain why they gave us his number. Of course, Desert Realty calls us and politely asks us to NEVER call the homeowner. If we were worse people, we could have treated the home owner like he and Desert Realty treated us.
I feel for some of the employees who work at Desert Realty. I believe they want to be better but they are constrained by greedy home owners or managers. At the end of the day, this is no excuse for their business practice of putting the renter last and on the hook for financial obligations designated to the home owner under Nevada law.
