In a city with so many signature bridges, a river-flanked downtown and prominent riverfront stadiums, arriving at PNC Park or Heinz Field by boat seems par for the course. Even if you do it only once, the experience is novel and rather convenient!
My lone trip to date was aboard the fleet's shuttle from Station Square (down the Monongahela River) to the river walk near PNC Park (up the Allegheny River). The trip is short and generally uneventful, though the view of Point State Park is nice; boarding and off-loading at PNC Park seemed to take about as long as the cruise itself.
The dock near Station Square offers limited concessions and drinks before boarding, and there's a bar with snacks aboard too, for those interested in having something cold on the way to the game.
With a fare of $10 per person round trip (one-way tickets are available for $5), this is probably not the lowest-cost way for groups to visit PNC together. With the North Shore light rail station nearby, some parking lots close to the park and the pedestrian-friendly walk from downtown available, the river shuttle's appeal comes in the form of convenience (it docks a very short walk from PNC's right field gate) and charm. On a clear weekend day with traffic on the water, the cool breeze and smooth sailing are welcome additions to the baseball experience.
