  • If you like the money you have in a checking account here, you won't be able to keep it. I opened a checking account with BBVA Compass because offered my business a no fee account with free checks provided a minimum balance was maintained. I have always kept funds well in excess of the minimum. The free checks part disappeared before I could even use up the first set of checks. Not too much of a problem. The online account access was a joke and I ended up having to pay a $3.00 monthly fee to have a statement mailed. Then the bank decided I didn't exist and stopped mailing the statement. I never understood the reason for that. Finally, the bank has decided it needs more of my money and started charging a $15.00 a month account fee even though I have always had at least four times more ($4,000 +) than the minimum required account account balance. Quite a change from the free account with the free checks. Adios, BBVA Compass
