  • I enjoyed living at the Las Vegas Grand apartments from July 2010 until October 2015. The staff is friendly, responsive and competent. If there's something broken, it will get fixed or replaced quickly. There are events constantly - breakfasts, yoga, beer tasting, etc. The building itself was supposed to be condominiums, but was completed near the beginning of the financial collapse and so was converted to apartments. As such, the features, appliances and hardware are nicer than most apartments costing about the same. The sound-deadening is top-notch - I rarely heard anything from the adjoining apartments. The building is under the approach/takeoff path for McCarran and there are times when the jet traffic is constant. This can be quite loud but it rarely caused me frustration beyond maybe missing a piece of conversation in a phone call or movie. The thrill of watching jetliners going overhead full of people coming into fabulous Las Vegas more than made up for any disturbance. The building was sold at least twice while I lived there and went through three changes of management companies. The amenities are above what you will find at most apartment complexes - rooftop pool, concrete, multi-level parking garage, elevators, in-building storage units, very nice tennis and basketball courts, gym, business center and clubhouse. The building is located across the street from UNLV and has a substantial population of college students. For the most part this is not a problem, except that people seem to love to sneak into the place. I lived on the Swenson side directly over the west gate which has no guard shack. When school was in, this gate was under constant assault by people trying to gain access by dialing all the numbers in the system, waiting and following other cars in or brute-forcing the gates. The neighborhood surrounding the building is an extremely eclectic mix of low-budget housing, student housing and hotels. The surrounding streets are fairly rough-looking, but I had no problems personally. There are quite a few less-fortunate, possibly transient people around all the time. I was panhandled often at the neighboring convenience store and nearby Albertsons and Target. I think this combination of luxury apartments in a low-rent district is what kept the rents comparatively low while I was there and for me, the trade-off was acceptable. I wanted to live near the Strip and this is the best property close by that I could find. That's why I gave it a high rating - for the price, with this proximity to the Strip, I could not find anything better in 2010.
