  • We landed in Vegas at an ungodly hour on a Saturday morning and arrived at the Rio around 2am. We were greeted by a check in line that was ridiculously long, check-in kiosks that only let a select few actually check in, and quite possibly the slowest hotel front desk we've ever encountered. After almost an hour, we make it to the front only to be told that they don't have any double rooms left for the night - so they offer to upgrade us and waive the resort fee for the day. My friend and I were exhausted so we agreed to share a king for the night. The woman said that she would put us on the waitlist for a double room, but that we could keep our upgraded room at no additional cost if we wanted. Despite explaining to her that we would want to get a double, she seemed insistent that we'd love our upgraded room so much that we'd want to keep it. We got to the room and it was old and dated. It had this terrible (or amazing, depending on your decoration preferences) pink velvet couch and seemed to be right underneath the Voodoo night club - which you could hear the loud music playing. The bathroom had this strange window that looked into the bedroom which gave my friend and I a chuckle as we both got ready to go to bed around 3:30am. At some point that night, we were awoken by loud arguments occurring in the room next door. We eventually gave up trying to sleep around 7 when we got up, had some breakfast, and headed to the pool until we could switch rooms - strangely enough, we weren't as in love with it as the front desk at 3:00am thought we would be. While waiting for the pool, we were approached by another hotel guest offering blow, weed, and sex. Oddly, we declined, but he let us know that he was staying in the same tower we were currently located in.... so after spending some time at the pool, we headed to the front desk to change rooms - and towers! We were moved into a double in the Ipanema tower and the room was way nicer than our "upgraded" room in the Masquerade tower. Once moving, our entire experience improved and we never ran into that hotel guest again. Overall, it was a pretty lame experience having to share a king in a room right under the night club at the Rio, but the way the staff handled it and the comps we received for the inconvenience made it worth it.
