  • Every year my friends and I go to spring training in Arizona. Our group is made up of A's, Giants and Dodgers fans so we try to go to games involving those clubs. The best scenario is when one of those teams plays in Goodyear because we really like the park. Because it hosts two teams, it usually has more night games than other venues, so we can do doubleheaders in one day. I like the layout of the venue because it has super-wide concourse areas down both foul lines. We always bring gloves and play catch before the game begins. Down the RF line they have several corn hole games setup and those are fun, too. There is a whiffle ball field that has a bucket of bats and balls in there if you want to start up a game. We usually spend a few minutes doing this, but it's usually overtaken by a dozen kids shortly after the gates open, which is how it should be. They also serve Cincinnati Chili from Skyline down the LF line, which is a great plus. You can get the coney or a bowl of 3-way and it's not very expensive, $5.50 in 2015. There's plenty of shade under the scoreboard in LF and the berm is quite expansive as well if you want sun. The one knock on this place was we witnessed a woman lose consciousness in the OF concourse and several of us scurried in different directions to get some help for her. There was nobody around and after several minutes an usher came by and offered her water? Then after a few more minutes passed an EMT finally arrived and took her away for further evaluation. Had this been a more serious incident, it probably would've been a terrible disaster. I know they have a first-aid office in the concourse behind the 1st base dugout but they should have random patrolling staff, especially when it reaches 90 degrees out. Anyway I really like this venue, it's one of the nicer ones in the league, and we try to incorporate a visit here each spring training trip. PS: Don't forget to say hi to George Foster, too, he's usually there for Reds games.
