I scheduled an appointment for my newborn for her first checkup. We are in the process of adopting her, but obviously need to get her seen like any other new baby. When we arrived for the appointment, I provided all of the hospital and immunization records and pointed out that the name is different due to the adoption which is in process. The girl at the front desk wasn't sure what to do so she asked if I would give her a minute.
Someone else called me up to the front desk, I assume an office manager or supervisor, and stated that they need documentation of legal guardianship before they could see her. I told them it takes a while for the consents and adoption paperwork to be signed and processed, and I asked if emails from my attorney would be sufficient. They said no and refused to see my infant.
This is completely ridiculous and unacceptable. Some states have up to 10 day waiting periods before consents are signed, so I'm supposed to not bring in my newborn adopted baby until then? She deserves the same care as any other newborn child. Unfortunately Noah's Ark refused to provide her any care.
After leaving I called a different pediatrician and made an appointment. I told them it was for an adoption and they said it would be no problem, I would just need to bring her vaccination records and any hospital records. So Noah's Ark, in my opinion, is discriminating against adoptive families. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere, and if you are an adoptive parent I would urge you to do the same.
