| - I had pretty low expectations for the Mystery Castle. I think maybe I thought it would be like a cheesy, dumb haunted house sort of thing. But it was NOT that.
I will spare you the whole back story, because then why would you even need to visit here?! It is a quirky place to visit while in Phoenix, and more akin to a really interesting historical home!
The important things to know are this:
- Hours are strange. Check before you go. Also since they don't have air conditioning, I think they don't do tours in the summer.
- CASH ONLY. $10 admission for the tour, and cash only. Silly me should have checked before we got there and gone to an ATM beforehand...whoops.
- The only available public toilet is a port-a-potty just outside the gate. You have been warned.
- If you have mobility issues, this may not be a thing for you. Stairs, uneven ground and gravel/sand. Be forewarned.
- I really like the circular tour style they have going on. Meaning, there aren't set tour times. After you get there and pay, when the guide passes your group, he invites you to join the tour where they are. This does mean you may hear some information repeated as groups join and leave the tour, but it keeps things moving and on a more flexible schedule.
I found it really interesting and certainly something off the beaten path. I enjoy these types of things, and I also expected it to be less than it was, so there is a chance I am over praising it. But I really enjoyed visiting and touring and finding out about this strange little piece of history!
