Amazing this beautiful neo-Gothic style church seems all alone in the city of Montreal.
Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal was the largest in North America house of prayer. Its huge volume in neo-Gothic style and decor of the chapel inspired by that of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. The vaults are colored deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is decorated in blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues. Unusual for a church, the stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal.
This church is located in a very convenient location if you're shopping in Montreal, and it was not crowded when we visited in the middle of the afternoon. A must see!
