| - Admittedly there is no such thing, in my experience, as a fully upfront and forward, no hassle moving company. That being said, I had high hopes for this one. I went with them, despite a higher over the phone estimate, because of positive reviews and a good BBB grade. My move was coming up quickly do I tried to set up a home visit quickly but due to the person I spoke with being off on Monday and the office being busy on Tuesday, they were unable to do a home visit till the Weds before my move, just a week and two days before my lease was up and I had to be out. The gentleman did arrive with a representative of the moving van company the are associated with to "show him how to do an estimate in house". (I later learned that this company has only recently taken on out of state moves and they are not as adept at them according to their driver that did my drop off.) The real shock came when my estimate jumped $1,000 dollars from the phone estimate once they were in person. I found out $545 of that was because they insisted that an 18 wheeler would fit in my complex. I told them Bekins moved me in with one and my complex management offered to vouch for me that 18 wheelers move residents in and out regularly. They refused to change that fee. I tried finding another company but at this point, everyone else was booked till after my move date. I was stuck. The company did call me that day and say if I let them move me Tuesday instead of Thursday or Friday they would knock off what turned out to be $350. I said that was fine but I was still upset about the truck fee and I would not be at my destination till 5/29 so they could not drop off until then. I was told they would "accommodate" me by holding it if necessary till 5/29. Every email I recorded showed drop off dates of 5/27-5/29.
The pick-up went pretty smoothly, very friendly and efficient guys. The only hiccup was that the one who did the walk through with me the day of the move left at some point and those left ended up loading some items I needed left behind as everything was headed to a storage unit and I didn't know what I would have access to. They did return the stuff immediately upon being notified.
On 5/28 I received a call to confirm my drop off as Saturday afternoon, 5/30. I was surprised because they seemed to be going out of their way to wait till 5/29. I also had already scheduled a weekend with that in mind with assorted appointments and obligations that didn't have me anywhere near my storage unit they were delivering to. Before I even had time to change more than one appointment they called again and told me it would actually be "first thing Sunday morning", even worse for my schedule. However, they have you over a barrel with all of your belongings in their possession an no, I mean zero, concern for your schedule at that point. I arrived at the place I would be staying in California on 5/29. At 12:30 they called me and told me that they needed to now drop off at 4:30/5:00. I was no where near where the needed me at that point and had to make a number of calls and apologies to move my life around again to meet them, they weren't budging. At about 5:30 the driver calls and says they may be there by 7:00pm but the next morning would be better. I was about to explode. He said it would need to be 7:00am. Once again, I was stuck. I could not do 7:00pm as there was no way they would be done before my storage place closed. I called around again to re-rearrange my schedule and told them I could be there by 8:00am. The company called and said I needed to be there by 6:00am. The driver then called me back and said he could maybe make it by 6:30/7:00. At this point the times are just a blur and a mess. I've lost one client and another only stayed when I discounted my fee as an apology. Meanwhile, Muscular Moving Men did nothing for me.
The driver arrived readily and swung his 18 wheeler into a much smaller locale than my complex mind you, and they were polite, good natured and whole only one worker was an actual mover with the company, all were good. The one worker certainly took the most care and knew what he was doing the most. They were able to fit everything into my storage unit and went on their way. Of my own volition, and believe me I debated just letting them track me down, I called to pay after the movers had left, knowing full well that once my things were unloaded I had no real obligation to pay. I received no comment on my having to call them to pay, no apology for the nightmare scheduling and not a word or accommodation since. I do not recommend this company I'm afraid, but I also don't know who I would. Moving is a terrible game and you, the person moving, mean pretty much nothing once they have you where they want you. From doing the in person estimate so close to the move date you can't even get another offer to the horrible experience with delivery time, Muscular Moving Men failed to provide a quality experience by a long shot.
