  • Everything about my experience at Nan and Byron's was perfect! I recently moved to Charlotte, and it was at the top of my list of places to try. I took my mom for restaurant week last weekend and was extremely happy with my choice. Every detail of the decor was so well done and I loved that they had the heaters outside. We were a little worried about having to sit so close to the table beside us but we couldn't even hear their conversation. We started with the jalapeno margaritas and they were awesome! Fresh jalapenos and whipped egg whites on top. None of that fake lime sweetness that you get with some margaritas. Worth the $12. Instead of bread they bring out this delicious spicy popcorn that they put their wing dust on. I would take that over bread any day. It went perfect with the margs too. I started with the wings with the ghost pepper honey mustard and OMG they were the best wings I have ever had. Perfectly crispy and the sauce was great. I cannot wait to go back and have those again, probably on a Tuesday when they have half-priced wine! I typically don't like oysters, but anything fried is a different ballgame. I had a couple of my moms fried oysters that were served on a pineapple plank and topped with a fresh jalapeno and loved them! I had the salmon entree and it was very good, but I thought it needed a sauce. It was just missing a little something. I asked our server for some of the sauce that came with the wings. He was like ranch? That's embarrassing. It was such good homemade ranch that I couldn't even tell thats what it was though. All of the dill in it ended up being the perfect compliment for the salmon. So um, I suggest ordering ranch with your salmon...when in the South right? My mom got the hangar steak with the sweet potato blue cheese gratin and it was amazing! I am not a blue cheese fan but it was still delicious. We got the key lime tart and s'mores cheesecake for dessert with coffee and Baileys. Both were good but I wouldn't have ordered dessert if it didn't come with the restaurant week menu. If you can't tell by now, we loved the food. The service was just as good! Our server Bryan went above and beyond. We let him know we were in no rush and wanted to hang out and he took his time and never made us feel rushed even though I am sure they had reservations coming in after us. He was attentive, friendly and made excellent recommendations. It never felt like he was interrupting the meal! He did an excellent job. I can't wait to go back as I pretty much want to try everything on the menu and I definitely want to try their brunch.
