| - I've been meaning to check this place out, but even more so when I saw an advertisement online for their new "mango-pineapple" flavor. I have a thing for anything icey and tropical flavored, especially in the height of sweltering triple digit Vegas weather, so off I went.
The establishment itself is tiny, but cute and clean. Strictly functional and I'd imagine, a bargain for rent space. No chairs inside though. Only one other customer was there when I went, but I've driven past it numerous times and the line goes out the doorway sometimes, spilling over to the business beside it.
As the family before me made their selections, I was called to make my order by another employee. I appreciated her sense of urgency and I know it's just essentially an ice cream shop, but wished she had offered taste samples or explained the menu a little more, especially after I told her I haven't been here before. Sometimes it's all about customer service, you know? It wasn't like they were particularly slammed.
Oh well. I settled on what I came for in the first place: a regular-sized gelati: a mango-pineapple italian ice with a dollop of vanilla custard for $4 something. Later on I discovered you can get two flavors of ices and that custard comes in vanilla, chocolate, or swirl.
The italian ice itself was quenching, a cross between a slurpee and a smoothie and a popsicle stick. Very satisfying. It was contrasted by a thick custard, but I have to admit I'm not a fan of custard to begin with. I just liked taking a bit of it to the ratio of a lot of italian ice.
Overall, it's worth a try. I'm unsure as to how the price range is compared to similar parlors, but if you're near the Galleria Mall and need a little sweet, cold pick-me-up, this is a place to consider.
