| - Intrigued that a new resto had opened in TS, I decided to check this place out this weekend with some of my peeps. As soon as I walked in, I was like: Hmmmm... This place does not look like a cantina... though it does look very sleek and club-like. It's certainly eye-pleasing.. hopefully the food will be too.
And that, it was!! We started with the ceviche sampler and, because it was so good, ordered a second. Each of the 3 ceviches served as part of the sampler were distinct and interesting. My favorite was the ahi served in a chipotle (or something similar) sauce.... it was heavenly. For our entree, my man and I decided to share one each of the seafood based street tacos. Since there were two potential styles to choose from- grilled or fried - we ordered the fried option carb-less (lettuce as a sub for the tortillas -- an excellent idea!) and the grilled option to be served in a corn tortilla.
I'm not sure if it was the noise (it can get pretty loud) that may have distracted the server when he was taking our order but everything came out wrong. Both the grilled and fried tacos were served on a tortilla and, instead of varying the seafood, as we had requested, they served 2 of the mahi tacos and none of the shrimp. The server insisted that there was one of each... but then, when he looked at the plate and realized that nothing even remotely resembling shrimp was on our plate, he explained it away as him being new to the place and not knowing which was which... HUH?? We asked him to take both plates back, which he did... but that meant we had to wait another 20 min. or so for our food to come back to us. Unfortunately, when we got it, we choked the tacos down so that our friends didn't have to stare at us eat since they were already done. That said, it was the best choke down ever. Each of the tacos were excellent -- distinct flavors despite similar toppings; good seafood to to other stuff (cabbage, onions, etc.) ratio; piping hot; and the tortillas stayed soft (not soggy).
But, here's where the story gets better. I talked to the Manager about the kitchen/service screw-up. He got it, apologized immediately, made an accommodation on the check, and then asked me to give him another try. My answer: a resounding YES. We all make mistakes.... and when someone does their best to quickly get past them... that gives them an A in my book.
