  • I've always contended that LV needs more Paris-esque or at least LA-esque cafes. Sambalatte comes close enough. For me, Boca Park isn't the ideal location -- I'm not a big fan of Boca Park, but it serves its purpose and I totally appreciate that. I wish Sambalatte were in a different spot. I swear to God, there is a place in Boca Park called the Hipster Emporium. What dey sell dere? Anyways, so beyond my gripes about Boca (which means "mouth" and "trap" in Spanish, btw) Park, Sambalatte is as much as you can expect from Vegas in the way of cafes. And for that it gets four Vegas stars, which in any respectable modern city is the equivalent of three stars, don't you know? There is outdoor seating, so you can people-watch. Sambalatte is bookended between Kona Grill and Cheesecake Factory. So don't expect anything super sincere/ indie ("authentic" via the HROs). If we're talking auth, I feel like Sambalatte is kind of a step between a Starbucks and that dirty coffee house you go to for spoken word. One thing I liked about the space was that there's all kinds of little niches you could sit in. There was a small bar with outlets, the tall-backed chairs for couples, one large group table (large being about six people), and the outdoor seating. You can pop in and order a coffee or you can camp out for a few hours. When I went, there were at least four girls working front of the house and three in back but the line still moved hella slow. But the girls were all cute. Not that I care, but I'm sure there are people out there that go to coffee houses for eye candy. Oh, am I mistaken? Well, then. Disregard. They have a glass case of pastries and truffles and nut & fruit platters and crap. Just sayin': I'm pretty sure most, if not all of the prepared food is outsourced. I think the fruit & nut platter is a great idea for a social setting like a coffee house. Skål on that. It seems like for every con of this place, there was a pro to cancel it out. Read on. My chai took a while and I appreciate that it was freshly brewed. But seeing as how they gave me a small French press-style setup, I should have gotten it way sooner. The barista (or whatever they're called at this type of establishment) also offered me some sweetener in the way of agave. Sweet. I was conflagrated to see there was a loft. But when I got up there, I saw it was a really small and narrow space, just enough for three parties of two or four individuals cramming for finals. The shallow loft was redeemed by the free wifi. What I wanted (importance on a scale of 1-5) - did I get it: the scent and bustling sounds of a coffee house (3) - check populated to ~50% capacity (1) - check clean bathrooms (1) - n/a (did not investigate) authenticity (4) - null wifi (5) - check coffee/ tea (5) - check In all, Sambalatte is a decent venue. As much as I have negative to say, there are more positive things about this place. I'll be back many a times. #wifi #offthestrip #noncasino
