Finally stayed at the Luxor for the first time for the Super Bowl. We stayed in a regular Pyramid "Deluxe" Room (the minimum tier room) just because it was cheap, and boy did we get what we paid for. The room was damp/humid (despite the city of Las Vegas being dry) to the extent that our clothes in the suitcase would become damp just by existing in the room. It smelled of mildew and chlorine.
These rooms are clearly original to the hotel and have experienced no remodeling. The HVAC thermostat is actually on the vent unit like it's an early 1990s Motel 6. This is more minor and not really hotel management's fault, but if you're more than 5'10", the pyramid shape becomes a huge bummer when you need to duck to access about one-third of your room.
Luxor is usually a few bucks more expensive than Excalibur, so I was expecting at least a little better. Excalibur has at least had some mild renovations even in their cheapest rooms to make them less truck-stop-ish. I feel like the Luxor has neglected their Pyramid rooms to the extent that you'd be better off staying at the Travelodge down the street.
Despite my MLife Platinum status indicating that I receive a complimentary upgrade when available, I was denied this upgrade saying that their "allotment" of free upgrades had been used. They would still provide me the upgrade, but for $40/night. Uh, that's not how this is supposed to work.
I'll leave them with two stars for the same reason I reviewed them positively before, in that the dealers and gaming are very friendly and entertaining. The drink service was terrible - they didn't schedule enough cocktail waitresses and we would go over an hour of play without service - and the hotel is awful, but it's still not a bad place to play.
