| - Wow! What a hidden gem. Relaxing, great service, and not painfully pricey like some of the downtown tea rooms.
I was immediately welcomed and got a friendly, clear explanation of their menu. They give you an iPad, but will help you order if you need it. The iPad is great because you can see more detail about what's in each tea and a description of each dessert. They also brought me a tray with small jars of 20+ kinds of tea and asked about allergies, so I could look and smell each one before deciding!
I decided to get a pot of the Ti Guan Yin ($6.99) and a Matcha Panna Cotta ($5). The tea set looks classy af (see photos!).
The panna cotta was great! The top had a strong matcha taste and more gritty texture (clearly using real matcha), while the bottom was smoother, creamy, and had a strong taste of vanilla. The burst of strawberry complemented the dish well. Once I was nearing the end of my tea, they offered to refill it for me. I feel like it's such a waste when tea shops say no refills... It's just hot water!! There was definitely enough tea leaves in there to get a strong second (and potentially third!) pot. When I went to pay, I still had some tea left in the pot. The waitress offered for me to take the rest home (amazing!) and popped it into a to-go cup for me. Although $7 for tea can seen expensive, it was all loose leaf and for the amount of tea I drank I think it's worth it.
The best deal here looks to be the afternoon tea set ($28) that comes with tea or coffee, scones, mini sandwiches, and assorted desserts. Unfortunately, I had just eaten, but I'll definitely recommend it if you're looking for an affordable high tea option.
I was the only customer when I popped in, and I'm really not sure why. Perhaps it's busier on the weekend? I hope they keep up the great work and other people can enjoy it here as much as I did!
