I started going to Mayo in 2015 and everything seemed fine. Then in 2016 I received bills for extraordinary charges (an example is $125 for them to prick a finger for a simple blood test). Apparently Mayo and my insurance had decided to cut their relationship and neither the insurance company nor Mayo advised this was the case. I tried to talk with Mayo to get them to give me a minimal discount on the services since I know the insurance company would not pay the ridiculous fees they are assessing me, however, they were completely unwilling to do so. I owe them over 1000 for a simple eye exam (which I didn't even asked for, the doctor I was seeing recommended it and it turns out my eyes are fine so a complete waste of time and money) and two finger pricks.
If you decide to use Mayo I warn you to be VERY cautious that the coverage you have does not change. My insurance card, member ID (everything) shows identical to what I had in 2015 and I cannot find anything in the paperwork for insurance elections that indicates any type of change in providers.
I only blame Mayo for the fact they are completely unwilling to work with me even knowing that I had no awareness of the insurance changes (and have been out of work for six-months). They even confirmed that the insurance provider would not pay the same amount as they are making me pay, the insurance company would be given a discount. I think it is insane that they charge individuals excessively and are unwilling to offer any negotiation of the extraordinary charges they assess.
