| - Big Jim's smaller than other restaurants and the decor is not much to write home about, but they do have flat screen televisions in the both dining room and bar if you're into that. The parking can be tricky, because they don't have a parking lot and the restaurant is situated on the edge of crowded neighborhood, whose resident all use street parking for their own vehicles.
Their Italian wedding soup is solid, even though it doesn't have noodles in it, which I'm used to. I love that they use escarole instead of spinach, because it holds up in the broth better.
The veal Parmesan sandwich is what gets people in the door, 1) because Guy Fieri ate it, and 2) because it's monstrous and delicious. I myself don't like veal but at least one person at the table, normally my dad, always orders it and takes at least 1/2 home. And taking half home is worth mentioning because my dad knows how to EAT and he still has enough for another meal!
I have had the meatball sandwich which is huge and the meatballs are delicious, with plenty of sauce to keep them from drying out. They also pack on the cheese and melt it, which is so good!
Last week, I tried their Antipasto Salad. One might think, it's just a salad who cares! Let me tell you, I can't stop thinking about how good the salad was. First of all, there was a ton of fresh sliced lunchmeat that tasted more like deli meats then your run-of-the-mill cold cuts from the supermarket. They were so good! The salad itself had to be the portion equivalent of 2 whole bags of salad mix from the grocery store- it was massive. It also had a nice selection of black olives, whole peppercinis, cheese, and tomatoes. The ranch dressing tasted homemade and they gave a nice portion size. The salad also came with sliced garlic bread but I didn't partake in that because I cut back on my carbs. It looked and smelled delicious though. It's on par with the prices of salads at other restaurants, with three times the portion size. You may even want to share this with a friend.
Listen. I know this place is a total dive but it's one of those places you just can't deny. The food is homemade and excellent - and not just because Fieri went there. It truly is stick to your ribs & you better believe you are taking home a doggy bag at the end of the meal, while still unbuttoning your pants because you ate too much.
