  • It was my birthday and my boyfriend offered to take me to breakfast. We yelped breakfast places and saw that Rise and Shine had gotten some harsh reviews about service, but the bf had been there before and said he didn't remember poor service being an issue. We decided to chance it. When we arrived, the hostess (the girl with nose ring) didn't welcome or acknowledge us. We waited and she finally just asked "how many?" and then didn't say anything like 'alright just have a seat' or 'it'll be just a minute please' which was awkward. Great, I thought. My boyfriend even commented about how awkward it was. But I have to say that was the last of the disappointment because we were seated in about 5 minutes and our server (girl with glasses) was amazing! She was upbeat and kind and always there to keep our waters and coffees full (they serve Illy coffee which is THE BEST). And she was very attentive without smothering us. I got the cinnamon toast crunch french toast. It was actually a little burned. But it was still yummy. I ordered it as a platter so it came with sausage and eggs. Boyfriend ordered corned beef hash and liked it. It came with a pot of bread which really is like a little roll. It's cute but my guy was like "uhh do I just pull this out and eat it?" It's nothing too special. It has a cinnamon swirl in the middle which he shared with this birthday girl ;) We saw the owner, who has been mentioned in previous reviews, running around the restaurant seemingly doing stuff, at least very active, wearing slacks and a dress shirt. In summary: If the french toast wasn't a little burned it would've been AMAAAZING. Although it was still enjoyable. Maybe the owner should have a talk w the hostess about how she's the first impression anyone who comes in gets of the establishment. Order their coffee because Illy is the best!! Overall, my boyfriend and I felt that it was evident that they read the yelp reviews and make adjustments accordingly. We thought this was great.
