| - Ugh, I had such high hopes for this place, but my coworkers and I agreed that we wouldn't go back. We went around 9:30pm on a Thursday night for their buy one get one free happy hour. Even with this, my bill came out to be around $16. I got the tomato broth, beef brisket, enoki mushrooms, another type of mushroom, tripe, and jelly noodles (jü luo). Maybe I think it's so expensive because I'm used to eating 5x more food at AYCEs for $25.
Another reviewer recommended the tomato broth ($4.99), so that's what I got. I hated it. It tasted like tomato paste from a can and was really salty. My coworker got the original broth and I liked that much much better.
For the meat option, I got the beef brisket ($5.99). It was the cheapest option on the menu, but it was still tasty. Came with about 7 slices. The beef here is definitely the star of the meal, with wagyu/kobe options. Honestly, if I were to ever come again, I'd just splurge on the combo and skip all the other stuff.
The 2 mushrooms were $1.99 each, jelly noodles $2.99 and tripe $3.59 (pre-happy hour discount). SO expensive. I also really wanted the chrysanthemum greens, but they were $2.99 for a single serving. At the Chinese market, you can get enough chrysanthemum greens for 10 people at that price. I definitely wouldn't come without the happy hour discount. I'd only come if you weren't that hungry. If you're really hungry, go to an all you can eat.
The conveyor belt was really limited in options. They didn't have qual eggs or a variety of fish/meat balls. It also didn't really look that fresh. Maybe it was basically it was late on a slow night.
I will say that the service was really good. The waiter refilled our waters, got us beers and even split our bill for us, which was much appreciated.
