| - I'm a Texas latecomer, having lived there for 12 years now. So, I KNOW good BBQ. Joe's does it great. There are many opinions about BBQ re: wood, meat, sauce. Joe's uses pecan wood, not a common choice. Most folks go with oak, mesquite, or hickory. Kudos for being original. It imparts a sweet flavor to the meats. We ordered for a large group of 28 and opted for turkey (chicken is boring), brisket (a Texas MUST), and pulled pork. All of the meats were SUPER moist, tender, juicy, melt-in-your mouth delicious. Perfect smokiness. Sauce was tangy and spicy, as it should be. Sides included coleslaw, in which we debated about the "secret" ingredient; most of us felt that it was orange. We also had mac 'n' cheese and cheesy potatoes. Each person had his/her favorite side. We had NO leftovers! Everyone liked it. NO empty plates. So, the bottom line is that this is the REAL DEAL. Skip the commercialized chains and go to Joe's. Now, time to head back to Texas.
Bonus: they offer a military discount in uniform. Alas, I left mine 2 states away.
