| - Don't even bring inexpensive shoes here! Boy, did Yelp let me down this time. Here's the whole megillah. My foot got trapped in a heavy door and ripped the strap off of a pair of inexpensive, vinyl, thong-style sandals that I love, love, love to wear when just lounging. After calling the shop and being told prices started at $10 to repair a broken strap on a sandal, I brought them by. These are basic sandals with the inside strap attached via elastic to the shoe under the sole. I have a snakeskin pair that is constructed the same way, so there is nothing unusual about them. When I got to the shop, the price was now $15 and the man working (who smiles a lot) said they were vinyl so not worth fixing. Okay, that's your opinion, but I love my shoes and they look like taupe patent leather so the vinyl comment was annoying. I'm accustomed to haggling a little in shops like this, but the prices seem to be set in stone with no rhyme or reason as I asked why it was $15 for this strap and was told it was because they had to open the sole and glue it back on. How else would it be made as I had said the strap ripped off the sandal on the phone? They're not made of foam or something. He also told me the tiny piece of elastic was going bad on the other side, as well, and that would be another $15 to get fixed. I would have gotten both redone for maybe $20, but not $30 when the shoes weren't even that much and I've had handmade shoes resoled for less. So much for reasonable prices. In the end, I just had the broken shoe repaired and was told it would be ready 6 days later. Seriously? There's a sign in the window that says repairs while you wait. And to add insult to injury, as I was driving away I realized I never got a receipt of any kind when I paid in-full upfront as required and I even searched through my purse at my next stop and there was nothing. So, unless he put in on the counter and I didn't notice, he never gave me a receipt and I paid in cash.
I spent a week freaking out that they'd say I didn't pay upfront for the repairs, but luckily that didn't happen (the one good thing). What did happen is that another man working asked for my "ticket" when I came in and when I said I never got one he insisted that I lost it as they give a ticket to everyone (and are never wrong, apparently). When I explained that I even double checked when I stopped at the car wash after leaving their shop, he made a rude comment that the car wash must have taken my ticket. Yes, Terrible's Car Wash, which you drive yourself through, stole my ticket. He then got a notebook off the shelf and made me put my info in it while emphasizing that all the names were for people who lost their tickets. What the heck? Who treats a paying customer like that? So, now I am in the official book of Forgetful and Disorganized People thanks to the smiley guy not handing me some ticket. I am very organized and never put papers in my car and if I lost the ticket, I would have said so. What an attitude this guy had. Anyway, I looked over the shoes and the strap looked okay on quick inspection and why worry with the great Yelp reviews, but I thought they could have at least cleaned the soles for the whopping $15 and a week I spent waiting for my sandals, not to mention the attitude I had to deal with. Oh, it gets better, though.
When I finally got home, I tried on my shoes and their stitching scratched my foot in 2 spots and when I took a closer look to see what I could do about it (nothing), I noticed the horrible job they did re-gluing the sole back to my shoe: lumpy, open spaces where the sole is not even attached, and visible, dried glue all over the side of the heel. Due to this guy's attitude that he is right and the customer is wrong, it's not worth going back to argue about it, so I hope a Yelp review might help others not make the same mistake.
I have no idea why someone would trust this shop with pricey shoes. I would never take my expensive boots or handmade Moroccan shoes purchased in the souk in Rabat there after this job (oh, please keep holding on shoes). I'm mad enough that my inexpensive sandals now look like garbage, when they actually looked very nice, and it took me 45 minutes to get to their shop in traffic. Be forewarned.
