| - Ahhh Mccarran Airport...beyond the glitz of the strip beaming in from every window facing the north side, the ching-ching-ching of the slot machines near every gate, the smell of the Mrs. Fields' cookies wafting by as I eagerly dart out from the A-gates to the baggage claim, the rental car experience here makes what normally is an abysmal portion of any trip easy, squeezy, lemon-peasy.
As you exit the terminal from the numbers 10 and 11 exits, you have to cross the driveway to the rental car terminal shuttle stop. Once you're out, the driver will help you with your bags (some will even refuse a tip - an anomaly in Las Vegas) and you go inside. I always get National due to status points I built while working as a consultant and away I go. I love the simplicity of this place - National, Alamo, and Avis (I think?) on the left, the rest on the right. So you just go to your section of the garage, go pick up your car, and you're gone.
This also is the only rental car spot that I've driven a Saab luxury model at full-size price so it's another plus. Of course, it helps having executive status if you're a regular traveler. For those who don't, a tip, sign up for the bonus program of your carrier to potentially get some perks - I like National's ability to just walk up, pick a car, and go. Even their base Emerald line has Impalas, Altimas, and other decent cars that I only paid compact rates for.
Turn-in is also easy - drop the car off, have the attendant print your receipt, go back out the way you came, and in 10 minutes you can be at the terminal. Forget to leave your key? Easy - give it to the bus driver. No penalty. Then enjoy the sadness that comes from leaving America's largest adult playground.
